Modern indoor volleyball uses rally scoring. That means every rally gives one point to the team that wins it, whether that team served or received.
Winning A Set
Most standard indoor sets are played to 25 points, and a team normally needs a two-point lead. If the score reaches 24-24, play continues until one team creates that two-point gap.
The deciding set is commonly played to 15 points, again with the two-point requirement. Tournament formats can vary, but the rally-scoring logic stays easy to follow: every ball matters.
Side Out
When the receiving team wins a rally, it scores a point and gains the next serve. Fans often call this a side out. It is one of the most important momentum swings in the sport.
What To Watch
Late in a close set, serving choices become sharper. Teams often target a weaker passer, a front-row attacker who must hit next, or a zone that disrupts the setter’s preferred play.
